ECW on Sci-Fi report
Airdate July 22

Teddy Long was in the ring with the new ECW championship belt. Long called out ECW Champion Mark Henry who came out looking almost as happy as he was at Night of Champions when he won the title. Tony Atlas said they are so happy to receive the belt, he calls it beautiful. While I don’t think it is “beautiful” it looks much better than the old ECW title belt. Atlas says anyone living in yesteryear will be swept under the rug, like Tommy Dreamer was, but anyone living in today will be rewarded, Atlas calls out Colin Delaney.

Colin shakes Henry and Atlas’ hand and tells us he was tired of being seen as a laughing stock and that Tommy Dreamer did nothing for him. Colin actually got quite a bit of heat during his promo. He also said he’d be proud to carry Henry’s bag or be his domestic bitch. Long says “Wait a minute, Colin, you have a match tonight against Tommy Dreamer, and it is next!”

Colin Delaney vs. Tommy Dreamer got under way after Atlas and Henry split leaving Colin to fend for himself. Colin tried to flee but Tommy caught him and beat the piss out of him, throwing him around the ring and clotheslining the crap out of him. Delaney tried to take a break on the outside but Dreamer threw him back in, upon returning Colin stomped on Dreamer and tried to get some offence going, however it didn’t last long and Dreamer returned to beating the hell out of him. Dreamer eventually put Colin out of his misery and hit the DDT for the win.

Miz & Morrison were backstage and said Sunday will forever be known as “Black Sunday”. They wish each other luck in the fatal 4-way tonight. Morrison remarks “May the luck of Buddha sit in your corner as well”. Morrison rules.

We get a Great American Bash recap as well as a video from Jenny McCartney who informs us she’ll be at Saturday Night’s Main Event on August 2nd to help fight autism.

Chavo Guerrero and his bodyguard Bam Neely made their way to the ringside area to do guest commentary with Mike Adamle and The Tazz. Chavo was here to watch Evan Bourne vs. James Curtis.

There was some early mat work from Bourne, Curtis tried to snap mare Bourne but being awesome and all, Bourne landed on his feet and hit a hurricanrana. Curtis cut Evan Bourne off (Adamle was saying things like “Evan from Heaven” and “Air Bourne”) and worked over him for a while. Bourne fought back and hit an assortment of kicks on Curtis. Bourne hit another hurricanrana and went for the shooting star press which got him the win. Post match Chavo and Bam tried to attack Bourne but Bourne escaped.

Finlay was discussing tonight’s main event with his son Hornswoggle, after this was the Raw Rebound.

Tiffany was in the office with that moron Ricky Ortiz. They talked about something, but it was Ricky Ortiz and I just focused on the hot chick. Long came in and told Ortiz that he sucks and is now fired. Ok that part was a lie (and a wish). Long said he had hair just like Ortiz did back in the 70s. Ortiz told Long he had all sorts of ideas for merchandise but Long was all “dude, you’ve had one match”, Long informed Ortiz he had a match next week. Oh Joy.

We had a video package of Mike Knox, Mike Friggin’ Knox! Matt Hardy was backstage and cut a promo about how he was down after losing the US title to Shelton at the Great American Bash but when one door closes another opens and he was going to win tonight and move on to Summerslam to face Mark Henry.

It was now time for our MAIN EVENT which was a number one contender’s match between – Miz vs. John Morrison vs. Finlay vs. Matt Hardy.

Miz tried to roll up Morrison from the off but the pin attempt was broken up. The faces dominate early and they throw the heels out of the ring. Hardy and Finlay go back and forth until Morrison trips Hardy up on the apron and the heels then take over the match. Eventually, all 4 back off from each other and we headed into the commercial break.

We come back with Miz and Morrison working over Hardy and Finlay. There was a load of pinfalls with everyone just trying to pin anyone they saw, all were broken up, but it was a cool spot. Morrison knocked Finlay to the outside and went to deliver a baseball side, Finlay however tried to trap Morrison within the ring apron, Morrison being all enlightened, saw it coming and stopped before Finlay could catch him, Morrison then hit a dropkick and went after the little mutant, Hornswoggle. Finlay stopped Morrison from hurting his son and threw him into the barrier and clotheslined him over into the crowd. Finlay went into the crowd to continue the beating on the Shaman of Sexy but Morrison once again used his enlightened brain and threw a glass of beer in Finlay’s face. Miz and Morrison doubled teamed Finlay on the outside.

Inside the ring the former tag champs began to double team Matt Hardy, Morrison told the Miz to look at something in the crowd; while Miz had his back turned Morrison rolled up Hardy and tried to get the win. Miz and Morrison began to argue until Finlay returned and the match resumed.

Miz held up Hardy for Morrison to springboard kick him but Hardy ducked and Morrison hit his partner. Hardy hit the side effect on Morrison for 2, people in the crowd thought this was the finish! Finlay then hit the Finlay roll on Hardy for 2. Matt recovered and bulldogged Miz, not before clotheslining Morrison on the way down. Before Matt could get back to his feet Finlay literally jumped on him with his ass for a 2 count.

Miz was taken out by Finlay’s stick, Morrison hit a kick flush on Finlay’s head knocking him down. Matt Hardy slowing staggered to his feet as Morrison spring boarded off the ropes, Hardy kicked Morrison in the gut and hit the Twist of Fate for the win. The crowd popped huge for this, it was a really good match too. As Hardy celebrated Mark Henry came out and stared at Hardy from the ramp as ECW went off the air.

Good show this week, with a really good main event. Hardy vs. Henry at Summerslam could be a decent match. As always please send any comments or questions to steve@wwepreview.com.
