Tuesday news update #2: Smackdown and ECW tonight, Adamle’s replacement on ECW and more

Tuesday July 29, 2008 BY Phil Lowe

- WWE tapes Smackdown and ECW tonight in Hershey, PA. No matches have been announced at time of writing. As always, we’ll have an ECW recap up on the site on Wednesday morning (for those of you in the States who are wondering why our recaps for ECW are usually up on a Wednesday, remember that most of us are living in the UK and its the middle of the night when the show goes out on Sci-Fi!).

If you’re attending tonight’s tapings, we’re looking for reports and results from Smackdown. You can get in touch with me at phil@wwepreview.com!

- It’ll be interesting to see if Mike Adamle calls the action on ECW tonight. I can see them having him do the show in case Raw viewers tune in, although I can’t ever see the day where Adamle becomes a ratings draw!

As for who replaces him, I wouldn’t be surprised if Joey Styles is back in the job (particularly if Adamle’s run as Raw is short-lived, which I both hope and think it will be).

If its not Styles, I’d love to see Josh Matthews be given an opportunity. However, Todd Grisham is the more likely choice to sit alongside Tazz.

- Did anybody else notice Mike Adamle leave the announce table as Shane McMahon’s music hit last night and loiter around at ringside before jumping into the ring? Talk about giving things away. I know WWE have to try and justify Adamle’s reported $300,000-a-year salary, but I think last night’s move will be a total disaster if they throw him in there live each week

- I’m guessing this is bogus. If anybody has any further details, drop me a line at the above email address!

- Early Tuesday news update: New addition to the McMahon family, Hollywood actor joins WWE creative, plus notes on John Cena and Randy Orton.
