Monday news update: Raw tonight, Flair in the UK, Punk, ECW title rematch and more
- Raw takes place tonight in Chicago, IL with no matches announced at time of writing. Its almost certain that we’ll get a follow up to the fantastic angle from Summerslam last night involving Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels and his wife Rebecca, while with the show taking place in the hometown of CM Punk, I think its a safe bet that the World champion will feature on the show.
WWE.com are teasing that we’ll also learn more as to why Kane has Rey Mysterio’s mask.
As always, we’ll have a Raw recap up on the site shortly after the show goes off the air courtesy of Todd Martin.
- WWE.com have posted a video of CM Punk receiving medical attention after his clash of heads with JBL at last night’s PPV at this link.
- WWE have announced Mark Henry vs. Matt Hardy for the ECW title this Tuesday night on Sci-Fi in a rematch from Summerslam. I still don’t understand why the heck they booked that as they did last night.
- Umaga is expected to be out until late September with a PCL injury.
- Ric Flair’s first post-WWE appearance in the UK will be with 1PW in Doncaster on October 18. As we noted last week, 1PW are claiming to have undergone a change of management with new owners taking over from Steven Gauntley, who long-time readers from when we ran the WrestleMag website will know all about. Booking Flair for his first UK appearance obviously gives the new management bragging rights, but booking him for an appearance in a venue where 1PW have had a history of drawing well (usually well over 1,000 in a 1,500 seater venue) is a questionable business decision – especially considering the amount Flair is demanding per appearance.
- Thanks to Devin Cutting for sending along the following which will be of interest to those of you in the United States: Sci-Fi has changed it’s schedule and will air Monday Night Raw live at 9 PM (ET) on August 25th, 2008. A replay of Raw will air that night on the USA Network immediately after USA’s coverage of the US Open tennis tournament.
- Cherry is already taking bookings following her release last week. newwrestling@yahoo.com for all interested in parties. All released talents last week are able to take bookings for indy promotions but have a 90-day clause prevented them from going to TNA.
