Sunday news update: Raw/Smackdown TV tapings tonight, Foley/TNA update, Heyman on Cena and more

Sunday August 31, 2008 BY Phil Lowe

- Both Raw and Smackdown are being taped tonight at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri rather than Monday and Tuesday respectively to avoid WWE having to be on the road for Labor Day. Tuesday night’s edition of ECW for Tuesday night was taped this past Tuesday in Pittsburgh.

We’re looking for spoilers from tonight’s show - the final week of TV before Unforgiven a week from tonight (live coverage here as always) - and if you can assist, you can get in touch at phil@wwepreview.com.

If you missed them last week, ECW spoilers for this coming Tuesday are online at this link.

- A former colleague of Mick Foley believes he is making a mistake by joining TNA. The unnamed sources told Mike Mooneyham of Charleston.net: “He just (messed) himself up by doing that. It’s the kiss of death. He’ll never go the (WWE) Hall of Fame doing that, and may have jeopardized his status with the company.”

Its an interesting point. Actually, Foley is the subject of our latest Roundtable piece which will be available on the front page of the site later this evening.

Foley’s WWE deal expires tomorrow (Monday). Its expected that if his deal with TNA has not already been agreed, it will be confirmed in the next couple of days. Whether TNA choose to make a big deal of the signing or keep it as secret as possible as they did when Kurt Angle joined the company remains to be seen.

WWE today removed Foley’s bio from their website, which as good as confirms he’s gone from the company.

- WWE released the following over the weekend following the sad loss of Killer Kowalski:

STAMFORD, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–World Wrestling Entertainment (NYSE: WWE) is saddened by the passing of WWE Hall of Famer Walter “Killer” Kowalski. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1996. He was instrumental in the training of many WWE Superstars, including current WWE Champion Triple H. WWE extends its condolences to the Kowalski family.

- Paul Heyman has a new piece online on The Sun’s website, looking at John Cena’s injury, his swift return after he visited colleagues backstage at Tuesday’s Smackdown taping just hours after surgery and his importance to WWE. Its a good read which you can check out at this link.

- For those of you in the UK, Summerslam 92 took place at Wembley Stadium 16 years ago today.

- Devin Cutting sent along the following: E! Canada will be airing “True Hollywood Story: Chris Benoit - Wrestling With Demons” this Wednesday, September 3rd, at 10 PM.
