Thursday news update: TNA Knockout set for WWE return, Adamle to wrestle and more
- TNA ‘Knockout’ Gail Kim appears to be close to finalising a return to WWE. PWInsider.com broke the news last night that Kim was on her way out of TNA, with the company removing her profile from their website at around the same time.
The Baltimore Sun today ran a small piece on the news, with Kevin Eck reporting that a source had told him that WWE were interested in re-signing her should contract talks with TNA break down.
Kim joined TNA in September 2005, signing a three-year deal. That may well mean that she is under WWE within the next couple of weeks as soon as her TNA deal expires.
Her last appearance in a WWE ring was in November 2004 in an angle with Lita and Trish Stratus. Shortly afterwards, Kim was released by WWE, who at the time wanted to go in a different direction, pushing the Diva Search contestants rather than focusing on women’s wrestling.
As we’ve seen in recent months, WWE has reverted back to pushing women who can wrestle over those who provide eye candy (a move which many believe is largely down to TNA’s success with their Knockouts division, which in turn is largely down to Kim) which may well be a major factor in their renewed interest in the 32-year-old.
- ECW on Tuesday night stayed strong in the ratings on Sci-Fi, doing a 1.5 cable rating.
- Mike Adamle is preparing for his in-ring debut, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Dave Meltzer reports that Raw’s GM, a former NFL player some years ago, has been working out with a personal trainer in Chicago. I guess WWE are keen to have Adamle earn that $300,000 a year!
- Jim Ross has posted his latest blog which you can read in full at this link. On Unforgiven’s Scramble title matches, Ross wrote: “WWE Hall of Famer Pat Patterson told me that he loved the idea of the “Championship Scramble” coming up at Unforgiven in about 3 weeks. Patterson created the Royal Rumble concept and apparently Pat has visualized the “Championship Scramble” and he feels certain that it will be exciting.
“Before critics damn the match perhaps we should allow it to actually happen. I am reserving my opinion until I see the match. The success of this unique attraction is all in the execution, as usual. Plus it is a chance for multiple wrestlers to shine. Someone we unexpect may have a jaw dropping performance.”
I have to admit, I’m not filled with confidence about these being memorable – at least not for the right reasons. Hopefully I’ll be proven wrong.
