ECW on Sci-Fi TV report (airdate September 9)

Wednesday September 10, 2008 BY Steve McLaren

A recap of the ECW title scramble match from Unforgiven opens up the show.

Matt Hardy is out first, he talks about how happy he is to be ECW Champion, and that winning the title feels like he has unlocked his destiny. He thanked the fans who stuck by him, and thanked the critics who made him work harder to prove them wrong.

Mark Henry then stormed out and told Hardy that he wanted his re-match. Tony Atlas took the mic and said “If you ever touch me again, there-a, gone-a, be-a problem!”. Henry attacked Hardy, but as Henry charged at Hardy, Hardy pulled the top rope down and sent Henry flying. Atlas was then on the end of a twist of fate.

A graphic of the Main Event was shown, it is – Matt Hardy & Finlay vs. Mark Henry & Mike Knox.

Our first match of the evening was Evan Bourne vs. John Morrison. Early mat wrestling from both men start the match. Bourne had the upper-hand till Morrison dodged the high knee strike. Bourne made a quick comeback and hit a dropkick which sent Morrison to the outside. Bourne then hurricanrana’d Morrison as we went to a break.

Almost immediately after coming back from the break, Miz swept the leg of Evan Bourne off the middle rope, making him crash to the mat. Morrison then worked on Bourne for a really long time, well, at least it seemed that way. Bourne eventually made a come back and got some 2 counts in before Morrison got his feet up for the standing moonsault.

Morrison missed the corkscrew moonsault off the top which allowed Bourne to then go up top for his shooting star press. However, Miz distracted Bourne which bought him off the top to deal with Miz. Morrison took advantage of the distraction and hit his springboard kick to the face for the victory. Morrison and Miz gloated while Bourne laid out cold.

A highlight of the Finlay and Mike Knox feud was shown.

Out next was Jack Swagger – All American American. Swagger is a big generic dude in all black; he looks to have no charisma what so ever and has a retarded smile. Anyway, he is facing a jobber by the name of Josh Daniels.

As I’m sure you have already figured out, Jack Swagger won. He looked pretty average on the whole, I’m not impressed.

Matt Hardy, Finlay and Hornswoggle were walking backstage, when of all people; Ricky Ortiz came up to them. He wished them luck and offered them a Ricky Ortiz towel for extra luck. Hornswoggle took it and waved it about as they continued to walk on.

It was main event time now. Matt Hardy and Mark Henry started. A lot of the match was Hardy and Henry fighting, and Henry was dominating most of the match. We came back from a break and Mike Knox had Hardy in a sleeper. He broke free and made the tag to Finlay. Finlay ran wild on Knox but as he went to return to the ring, he ate a big boot right to the face.

The heels tried to work on Finlay but it didn’t last too long before he made the tag to Hardy. Hardy came in and hit his moves of doom on Knox, he even managed a moonsault. The finish saw Hornswoggle come in which distracted the ref, Finlay then smashed his stick across Henry’s face and Matt Hardy hit the twist of fate on Knox to get the 3 count.

The show ended with the babyfaces standing tall.

It felt like a very low-key show this week, nothing major or of any sufficient happened. Jack Swagger is generic as hell; I can’t see him doing too well quite frankly. As always, e-mail any comments or questions to – steve@wwepreview.com.
