Monday news update: Unforgiven fallout, Raw tonight, Gail Kim update and tons more

Monday September 8, 2008 BY Phil Lowe

- Raw takes place tonight in Fort Wayne with no matches announced at time of writing. Its likely we’ll see where Chris Jericho’s reign as World Champion is heading and whether or not it will lead to a title match with Shawn Michaels at Cyber Sunday.

Coming out of last night’s PPV, you’d assume they’re still building to a CM Punk vs. Randy Orton match although it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to me if that is built up quite slowly. Given that Punk was taken out of the main event as a result of a single kick to the head from Orton last night, while Chris Jericho was somehow able to come back from a serious beating from Shawn Michaels and end up as champion, it would make sense to keep Punk off TV for a while.

If Punk returns tonight, then last night’s shambolic booking looks even more stupid, in my opinion.

As always, we’ll have Todd Martin’s Raw recap up on the site shortly after the show goes off the air.

- A quick note on last night’s PPV. Rey Mysterio: What exactly was Kane have meant to have done to him? It wasn’t a great storyline for a start, but just dropping it like that despite both guys being in the same match made zero sense.

- From the looks of things, WWE have dropped the idea of calling Triple H’s win last night the start of a new reign as champion. Its quite possibly it was just an error on commentary during the live broadcast.

- Gail Kim, Chris Masters and 2 Cold Scorpio will be appearing at Booker T’s Pro Wrestling Alliance event in Pasadena, Texas on September 18. That would indicate Kim hasn’t put pen-to-paper on the WWE deal she has on the table. There have been rumblings over the past few days that if TNA were to offer Kim a more lucrative deal then she would remain with the company.

- The Associated Press yesterday took a look at WWE’s plans to step up its business operations in Japan.

- On the subject of overseas business, WWE has a press conference scheduled for Tuesday to announce a TV deal with Televisa in Mexico.

- Jim Ross commented on Mick Foley’s departure from WWE in his latest blog late last week. Ross wrote: “As I see it, and remember this is merely one man’s opinion, it would appear that Mick did not burn any bridges with the WWE and a return engagement with the WWE isn’t beyond the realm of possibilities for Mick Foley in the future.”

That may well be a possibility depending how Foley’s first few months in TNA work out. I don’t believe the two sides agreed on a long-term deal. Although this isn’t confirmed, there was talk over the weekend that Foley’s deal was only through to next Spring.

- WWE returns to the Civic Center in Florence, South Carolina on December 6.

- Jerry Lawler will be signing autographs at the Bill Heard Dealership in Columbus, Georgia this Friday from 2-4pm.

- The “Killer” Kowalski Memorial Wrestling Show takes place on Sunday, October 26 at the Irish-American Club in Malden, Massachusetts All proceeds will benefit the Walter “Killer” Kowalski Memorial Fund. Scheduled to appear are Tito Santana and Nikolai Volkoff.

- Shannon Moore, Jimmy Valiant and Baby Doll will be appearing at the Power Pro Wrestling event in Little River, South Carolina on October 4 (thanks to Devin Cutting).
