A look ahead to TNA’s Bound for Glory IV PPV

Sunday October 12, 2008 BY Phil Lowe

TNA present their Bound for Glory PPV tonight from the Sears Center in Chicago, IL.

Thursday night’s “go home” show on Spike TV did a 1.0 cable rating – hardly an impressive figure three days before your biggest show of the year.

The card for tonight’s PPV is as follows:

- Samoa Joe (C) vs. Sting for the TNA World Heavyweight Title.

- Jeff Jarrett vs. Kurt Angle with Mick Foley as Special Enforcer.

- Taylor Wilde (C) vs. Awesome Kong vs. Roxxi in a triple threat match for the TNA Knockouts Championship.

- Beer Money Inc. (C) vs. LAX vs. Team 3D vs. Abyss & Matt Morgan in a Monster’s Ball match for the World Tag Team Titles with Steve “Mongo” McMichael as special referee.

- Christian Cage vs. AJ Styles vs. Booker T in a three way match.

- Sheik Abdul Bashir (C) vs. Consequences Creed for the X Division Title.

- The return of the Steel Cage Asylum (aka Terrordome) featuring X Division wrestlers.

- Rhino, ODB & Rhaka Khan vs. The Beautiful People & Cute Kip in a Knockouts Bimbo Brawl.

In our TNA-themed Roundtable piece up on the site last weekend, several of us wrote about the simple problems that TNA are failing to eliminate from their shows, which in turn is effecting their numbers. A 1.0 cable rating heading into tonight’s show is not a good sign and I’d be surprised if this does close to the numbers that the first Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle match delivered.

A major step forward for TNA tonight would be to have Joe go over clean in the main event. None of the ridiculous WCW-esque main event run-ins and ref bumps. Just have Joe beat Sting clean in the middle of the ring.

I’m interested to see how the crowd reacts to the top guys tonight as well.

In the night’s other main event match, I really hope TNA steer clear of having an Angle vs. Foley match for some time. Unfortunately I can see the match ending with Jarrett getting a win here and Foley bringing out the sock to set up Angle-Foley and rush into it before the year is out. I hope that’s not the case. The build to this has been pretty good, but Jarrett returning from a lengthy hiatus to return and beat Angle makes very little, if any sense. Have Angle win and keep him and Foley apart for a good few months!

Elsewhere, the undercard looks ok, although while I like The Beautiful People, I feel a little sorry for Rhino being stuck in that six-person tag match.

Christian/Booker/AJ should be decent, while the Steel Cage Asylum match could make tonight’s show a memorable one (and for the right reasons). The Monster’s Ball match will likely be a fun brawl in which I expect Mongo will take a bump or two at some point.

With the majority of the iFight365 team living in the UK, we won’t be covering the event live tonight. However, we’ll have a rundown of tonight’s results as well as any newsworthy items coming out of Chicago on Monday here on the site!
