Is Josh Koscheck ready to take on St-Pierre?
The interesting talk going into this PPV is all about Josh Koscheck. Rumour has it, that the winner of this weekends fight between Koscheck and Thiago Alves, will get a shot at Georges St-Pierre or BJ Penn for the Welterweight title (depending on the winner of their fight).
However, many of you will know that Koscheck has only just took the fight on two weeks notice. That is one big risk.
Let’s get this straight, Koscheck is fighting a really good Welterweight in Thiago Alves. This isn’t some average undercard fighter who Koscheck has been called up to fight, this is a contender for that title.
Of course, Koscheck is preparing for his fight with Yoshiyuki Yoshida at the “Fight for the Troops” card, but even so, it is a huge gamble to be thrown in so quick. So why did he take it? Simple. The lure of the Welterweight title shot.
If Koscheck wins, he’ll get his shot at the title. However, let’s say he wins this fight and then loses to Yoshida. Would the UFC still throw the title shot at him?
This should be a great fight. I often feel Koscheck is over-rated with many people while at the same time, I think Alves has a long way to go before he can put himself up there with the likes of St-Pierre. It should be good. I’ve gone for Alves by TKO in round three.
