Can Brock reach his destiny at UFC 91?
This weekend sees Brock Lesnar versus Randy Couture in one of the biggest fights in UFC history. Ahead of iFight365.com’s live coverage on Saturday night, Martin Smith continues his build-up by previewing the much anticipated fight…
First of all, wow. We’re here. It’s been two long months since this fight was announced, but finally, we have our dream match.
In more ways than one, this is the biggest fight in the history of the UFC. Randy Couture, a legend in the sport, versus Brock Lesnar, the up-and-coming powerhouse.
Throw in the fact that Lesnar is a former WWE Champion and the fact that this is Couture’s first fight back in the company since he took them to court and this is one hell of a spectacle.
So, how will the fight go?
Well, I’d put the house on this not going to the judges, the same way I’d put it on this staying firmly on the feet. Lesnar is quick and will hit the traps immediately. He’ll look to take out Couture very early with a lot of speed. Couture, to be fair, will be good enough to counter that.
A lot of people have told me that Lesnar will not last the five rounds. I say that’s shit. Lesnar was riding Herring like a bull at the end of their three round encounter. He was joking around and barely broke a sweat. Of course he can go five rounds. Lesnar also competed in a number of 60 minute matches in the WWE. Now, we know that isn’t the same but it is still hardwork.
A few people have asked me how each of these guys will win this. Simple - by knockout or TKO. Lesnar isn’t good at submissions on the ground. Neither is Couture. Infact, the only way Couture is winning this is by submission, which says something about the task Couture has in store. He will have been in the gym working on his ground game.
The only problem is, if Lesnar mounts Couture, then there is trouble. Lesnar is one hell of a big guy and can benchpress nearly double Couture’s weight. That is one ripped dude.
For this, I can’t see Couture winning. Unless he lands a great shot (and let’s face it, Lesnar’s chin hasn’t been tested, so Couture could win here) then Couture will be praying to go to the judges. If it goes there, he has a chance but I can’t see past Lesnar winning this. It would be a remarkable rise.
