ECW on Sci-Fi TV report (airdate November 11)

Wednesday November 12, 2008 BY Steve McLaren

A video recapping the road to Finlay vs. Matt Hardy played; this was before our opening match of the evening, that being - The Miz & John Morrison & Jack Swagger vs. Cryme Tyme & Tommy Dreamer.

Swagger and Dreamer started the match, but before Swagger or Dreamer touched, Swagger tagged out to the Miz. Miz was beaten on till Swagger tagged in and asked to face off with big Shad. They both traded shoulder blocks and forearms till Swagger was dumped out of the ring, both Miz and Morrison followed Swagger by being knocked out of the ring by Shad. JTG then tagged in and was launched, by his partner, onto Swagger. Tommy Dreamer then did a fat mans rolling dive onto Miz and Morrison.

After the break, JTG was controlled in the heel team’s corner. Upon tagging in, Jack Swagger was met with “Who are ya?” chants. JTG finally broke free and made the tag to Dreamer, who very slowly ran wild.

As like in all 6 man tags, it broke down to where everyone was in and out of the ring. Swagger hit JTG with a doctor bomb, but was then DDT’d by Dreamer. Morrison missed his springboard kick on Dreamer and was about to be given a DDT. However, Morrison rolled out of the DDT attempt and hit the moonlight drive for the victory. The right man and the right team won, so it was all good.

Hardy did a generic promo backstage saying Finlay will need all the luck of the Irish to beat him.

The Cena video from Raw aired and they plugged Jericho vs. Cena at Survivor Series. I like Cena and all, but Jericho shouldn’t lose the belt again so soon, but then again, Cena shouldn’t job right away on his return.

Mark Henry squashed Oliver Biney. Grisham then asked Henry for his prediction on the outcome of the main event; Henry got pissed and walked off without saying a word.

Clips of Henry vs. Finlay from last week aired, and then the tale of the tape was shown. I wish Grisham did a Mike Goldberg impression for introducing the tale of the tape.

After the entrances and ring introductions for both men finished, Matt Hardy vs. Finlay began.

There was some chain wrestling, mixed with mat based submission work by both men. Matt Striker mention that Sir Alex Ferguson (Manchester United boss for those that didn’t know who he was) called Finlay to wish him luck. I guess it isn’t any less believable than Michael Cole running around backstage and getting private information from everyone.

Finlay was thrown to the outside, and it was here the fans showed their choice of who they’re backing tonight, as Hardy was boo’d upon throwing Finlay over the top. Hardy was boo’d more throughout the match.

After the break, Hardy was dominating Finlay, but after missing a shoulder tackle in the corner, Hardy knocked Hornswoggle off the steps. Finlay came out of the ring to check on his “son” and then beat the shite out of Hardy. Finlay then very slowly beat on Hardy.

We came back from the break, and the match picked up with Matt Hardy hitting 2 side effects, but both couldn’t keep Finlay down for 3. Finlay then hit his butt splash and a rolling Samoan splash, yet he still couldn’t pin Hardy. Hardy got the upperhand and was able to nail Finlay right in the face with a moonsault. After a brief tussle coming out of the corner, Hardy hit a twist of fate out of nowhere and that was that, Matt Hardy is still the ECW Champion.

Maybe I had to high of expectations for Hardy vs. Finlay, but I really didn’t think it was that great. It was an alright edition of ECW on the whole, and Matt Striker continues to be the best colour commentator in wrestling today.
