ECW on Sci-Fi TV report (airdate November 4)
Matt Hardy was first out on this edition of ECW. The ECW champion was to face, Chavo’s bodyguard, Bam Neely.
After a back and forth match, Hardy blocked a ram into the corner attempt, and then hit the twist of fate for the victory over Bam Neely. This was a good match, Matt Hardy really does rule, and him being champion of the brand is so justified right now, even if it is ECW.
Post match, Finlay came down and basically challenged Hardy to a match for the ECW title. Before Matt could answer, Mark Henry came out and said this is BS, and he wants another title shot. Finlay and Henry argued for a bit until Teddy Long came out and told Finlay and Henry that they’ll have a match tonight with the winner facing Matt Hardy, next week, for the ECW Championship.
A Boogeyman video promo played, this was followed by a Wrestlemania ticket ad. There is something like 3 days before they’re on sale, I’m just sayin’. More ads followed, this time it was for the new WWE Raw vs. Smackdown 2009 game.
For the past couple of weeks, I’ve totally forgotten about Ricky Ortiz, sadly, he showed up tonight. The bumbling idiot with the awful hair beat jobber, Jon Davis. The crowd were so silent for this match; you could hear two guys chanting “Davis, Davis, Davis”.
I’m still waiting for the day Ortiz gets the ‘future endeavours’ line. I shall party like the people in Chicago did for Obama becoming the new president.
They showed Evan’s injury from last week and we’re told he’ll be out for at least 4 months, which sucks.
Jack Swagger made his way to the ring. In the ring, there was a table set up with a trash can, a title belt, a picture, and a cane. Swagger told us about the time Sandman caned the shite out of Dreamer and said Dreamer wanted to be “Hardcore”. I just noticed Swagger’s lisp in this segment.
Swagger continued and buried Dreamer’s 30 minute title run, he then dropped the old ECW belt in the trash can. Somewhere, ECW die-hards were outraged.
He then showed a picture of Beulah and said she married a failure in Tommy Dreamer. Dreamer being such a failure will rub off on their kids said Swagger. However, they can look up to him, Jack Swagger, as their new role model. He is an all American American after all. Dreamer came running down and sent Swagger packing with a cane shot.
The feud continues, and no one cares.
After the Raw Rebound, it was main event time. It started very slowly, but it ended up with Henry dominating Finlay and working on his shoulder. After Henry misses a Yokozuna splash, Finlay gets a second wind and works on Henry’s leg. On the outside, Tony Atlas tries to attack Finlay, but Atlas ends up getting knocked on his ass. I hope he wasn’t just dizzy like old Mae Young.
Atlas tried to get into the ring, but the ref cut him off. Hornswoggle then tried a cross body on Henry, but got caught. Finlay took Henry’s leg out and went for the pin. Henry kicked out at 2 and booted Finlay out of the ring. After a brief chase of a midget, Henry caught Finlay and smashed him back first into the ring post. Henry missed a splash and ended up getting hit with the stick as Finlay got the 3 count. With Finlay winning, it means that next week, we’ll see, Finlay vs. Matt Hardy for the ECW title.
Either Bam has improved or Matt Hardy is really, really great. I said something along those lines a while back when Mike Knox faced Hardy, and as much as I like Mike Knox, the second statement is the truth. Matt Hardy is a really, really great TV worker. I used to give that honour to Rey Mysterio, but this year, Hardy has been pretty excellent in his TV matches, that’s not to say he hasn’t had good PPV matches.
