Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling TV report (Episode 7)

Sunday November 30, 2008 BY Dan Short

Last week, Danny Bonaduce made it back onto the show and performed in a very good Falls Count Anywhere Match with Dustin Diamond. Meanwhile, Trishelle Cannatella was far from comfortable working in a hardcore environment and it resulted in her getting the boot. It’s now an all men affair on Celebrity Championship Wrestling.

All the celebrities have gathered in the lounge. Everyone except Dennis Rodman. Todd Bridges immediately voices his displeasure with the way Rodman hits way too hard and often times moving too fast. Butterbean adds that some of the chair shots he got from Rodman nearly winded him. Dennis finally shows up, only short after Brutus Beefcake and Brian Knobbs do. Knobbs immediately recognizes that the others are displeased with Dennis and explains to the camera that instead of complaining the others need to give Rodman a receipt. Termonology exposure at its finest.

Eric Bischoff meets everyone in the ring. He announces two of the three moves they will be learning: Arm Drag and a Chop. He then said that Hulk Hogan himself would be teaching the third move: Body Slam. Hogan arrives all dressed up to train them in the move. All the celebrities learn to give and take the move. Although no one has yet to pick up Butterbean. Even Beefcake couldn’t lift him up and is shocked and scared when Hogan asks him to try. Brian is having a ball watching this. Hogan’s involvement in training ends with Brian announcing the matches: Bonaduce vs. Diamond vs. Bridges in a triple-threat match and the Butterbean vs. Rodman in a big man match.

Knobbs, Beefcake, and a couple UPW trainers teach the celebrities the other two moves. As Knobbs is explaining the proper way to giving a chop, Butterbean asks that should someone make a mistake they could give them a receipt in return. Knobbs says yes, and this clearly effects Rodman’s psyche. They pair up, Brian booking the big man match and Beefcake booking the triple-threat match. Knobbs and Butterbean immediately notice that Rodman isn’t quite as energetic as he was before. Hogan drops by and also sees this, resulting in him taking Rodman aside for a pep-talk.

Over at Beefcake’s training, everyone takes note about how Dustin has “his move.” Dustin sees this as intimidation to the others as they have “their move.” The next day, Butterbean and Rodman are training long before Knobbs even starts looking for them. Knobbs feels satisfied enough to crash the Beefcake training. This annoys the participants of the match and Beefcake a little. Training is over and everyone is ready to go when Hogan drops by with a medical specialist. The specialist examines each of the celebrities, coming to Dustin last. Dustin says he is in a great deal of pain and after being evaluated the specialist advices it would be in Dustin’s best interest not to wrestler, but gives Dustin the option. Obviously, Dustin is going to wrestle.

Match time. We begin with the triple-treat match as The Winner takes on Mr. Not-So-Perfect and “Dangerous” Danny Bonaduce. In a number of ways, these guys are the three better performers thus far in the show. So it seems destined that one of them would end up slipping. While Danny and Dustin’s chops look rather weak, it is when Todd looks to bash Danny’s head into a turnbuckle that the judges notice the most. Particularly when Danny missing the turnbuckle completely and slams chest first into the middle turnbuckle. Aside from that, the match itself is not bad. Dustin continues to excel as a heel, which comes in handy as he uses a foreign object on the others for the win.

In the second match, it is the Mean Bean against Rodzilla. After Rodman gets going early, it is all Butterbean the second his nose starts to bleed. He gives Rodman receipt after receipt after receipt. It is downright brutal. Rodman attempts a no sell comeback, but it is all in vein as Butterbean’s offense wore him down too much and he reverses a flying top rope clothesline into a lifting side slam for the win. Butterbean looks awesome in this match.

Elimination time. Eric, Hogan, and Jimmy Hart point out the pros and cons for Rodman, Butterbean, and Todd before sending them back to the locker room. That leaves Danny and Dustin. Uh oh. Hogan points out the weaknesses both displayed during the match, although he admits both were excellent regardless. It is a tough decision sending one of them home. In the end, Danny becomes a two time jabroni and is told to get the hell out of the ring. This sucks.

Preview of the season finale next week sees the four remaining celebrities compete in a four-way. Dustin is having problems in hitting too hard with chops as it in turn hurts him right back. The eliminated celebrities get to return for a special attraction match which sees Frank Stallone in drag. And Hogan crowns the first ever CCW Champion.

Overview: Butterbean saved himself from elimination, that’s for sure. He seemed the most likely given that despite improving on a weekly basis he wasn’t coming off quite as good as the other four. Managing to get into Rodman’s psyche helped boost his confidence and in return gave an impressive dominating match that saved him from elimination. I still think Danny should’ve stayed as he was one of the better guys along with Dustin, but obviously that slip with the turnbuckle left a sour taste with the judges. Matches were pretty decent, nothing too bad to say for celebrities on few days training. Though nothing on the level of the previous week’s grudge match.

Episode Verdict: Thumbs Up
