UFC 91 does $4.8m gate for Lesnar’s title win

Sunday November 16, 2008 BY Phil Lowe

UFC 91 did a $4.8million gate on Saturday night, according to UFC President, Dana White.

White confirmed the figure late on Saturday in a press conference, noting a live attendance at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas of 14,272.

The near sold-out crowd saw Brock Lesnar defeat Randy Couture in the main event of the night to capture the UFC Heavyweight Title.

The $4.8m figure is the third highest gate ever recorded in Nevada, trailing UFC 66 (Liddell vs. Ortiz II, also held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena) and UFC 79 (Georges St. Pierre vs. Matt Hughes from the Mandalay Bay Events Center).

It was also the UFC’s fourth highest live gate in company history.

UFC 91 was the 11th UFC event to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Although the show was not a completely sold out, it still drew nearly $2m more in ticket revenue than last month’s UFC 90 show, despite the crowd for that show being over 1,000 higher with an attendance of 15,359.
