A look ahead to tonight’s TNA Final Resolution PPV
TNA presents Final Resolution live on PPV tonight from Universal Studios in Orlando, FL.
Its TNA’s final PPV of the year and almost certainly destined to draw a low buyrate.
A credit crunch, a boxing PPV last night and Christmas being only a few weeks away will likely effect the numbers ordering tonight’s show. Perhaps more importantly, the show has two main event matches that (at least for me) just don’t make me want me to part with my money.
The show is headlined by an eight-man tag which has the usual TNA stupidity attached to it. The Main Event Mafia of Sting, Booker T, Kevin Nash and Scott Steiner take on Samoa Joe, AJ Styles and Team 3D with the stipulation being that if any member of the TNA Frontline win, AJ Styles is the new champion. Multi-person main events are rarely a draw, but that stipulation is a huge reason why this show will barely make it into five-figures in terms of the buyrate.
Underneath that is Kurt Angle vs. Rhino with Mick Foley as special enforcer. If Rhino wins, Angle is gone from TNA. If Angle wins, he gets a rematch against Jeff Jarrett. Does anybody see Angle losing here? I guess they could give Rhino a shock win and do some kind of swerve to write Angle back in, but given that TNA chose to push a future Angle vs. Jarrett match on the go home edition of Impact for tonight’s show, we all know Angle vs. Jarrett is on the cards for in the New Year.
Perhaps Angle will lose, leave TNA for the next few months and train for that MMA debut. Yeah, right…
The only intrigue in the Angle vs. Rhino match is who the mystery guest is in Angle’s corner. TNA quietly dropped the “former World champion” tease on their website over the weekend, which would indicate a late change of plans or the realisation that Mikey Whipwreck won’t draw for them. I guess we’ll find out tonight which former tag team partner of Mick Foley’s is aligned with Kurt.
TNA also face the prospect of losing potential PPV buys to viewers wanting to save some money and watch WWE Raw tomorrow night. Obviously Raw is always on the night following a TNA PPV, but tomorrow night’s show is absolutely loaded as part of their three-hour special.
We’ll have a recap of Final Resolution up on the site shortly after the PPV goes off the air.
