Police suspect murder-suicide in death of former UFC fighter

Thursday December 18, 2008 BY Phil Lowe

Police are refusing to rule out the possibility that Justin Levens may have been the shooter in a murder-suicide involving his wife.

The former UFC and World Extreme Cagefighting fighter and his wife were found shot to death in their condominium in Laguna Niguel, CA on Wednesday.

Orange County Sherriff spokesman Jim Amormino told MSNBC on Thursday that a weapon was recovered close to Leven’s body.

“We can’t say 100 percent right now, but it is a possibility of that, with him being the shooter,” Amormino said.

Levens, 28, and his wife Sarah McLean-Levens, 25, were discovered by the woman’s mother at 2:30pm on Wednesday afternoon. Police believe the couple may have been dead for a couple of days.

Police had been called to the Levens’ home twice in the past month, including one time due to a suspected drug overdose.

Levens had been under a 180-day suspension after being banned in July by the California State Athletic Commission for testing positive for high doses of the painkiller oxymorphone.

Amormino added that pain pills and anti-depressants were found in the couple’s home.

Levens, who had a 9-8 professional record, had not fought for the UFC or WEC since 2006 but had gone on to fight in the now defunct International Fight League.
