Bisping targets Henderson, says Lesnar will beat Mir
All 20 fighters scheduled for UFC 93 on Saturday night made weight during Friday afternoon’s weigh-in in Dublin, Ireland.
But the highlight of the afternoon was Michael Bisping, who engaged a large crowd of several thousand during a Q&A session with fans.
Bisping will fight the winner of Saturday’s main event between Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson and revealed to the Dublin crowd that he’d prefer to face Henderson.
“I’ve said in interviews before that I’d prefer to fight Dan Henderson, specifically because he’s an orthodox fighter,” said Bisping. “Rich Franklin is a southpaw and southpaws can be a little tricky. You have to throw different combinations and everything.
“Chris Leben was a southpaw and that was my last opponent and I wouldn’t want to fight two southpaws back-to-back because it’s a bit of a pain in the backside.
“Also, Henderson had two PRIDE belts at once and had the middleweight and light heavyweight championships. He’s a bit of a legend. It would be nice to fight somebody like that.”
The Brit was asked whether Frank Mir can beat Brock Lesnar when the two meet later this May – most likely in May.
And to be blunt, Bisping said “no.”
“You can’t go out and throw caution to the wind (the way Lesnar did against Mir at UFC 81), because this is a physical chess match,” he said. “He learned his lesson the hard way. You saw in the Heath Herring fight, (Lesnar) was much more composed. He took his time and didn’t make any mistakes.
“I think the rematch, he’ll take him out in the first round, to be honest.”
