Lots of news and notes on Bobby Lashley, TNA status and future plans

Thursday April 23, 2009 BY Phil Lowe

A source close to Bobby Lashley believes the former WWE star has not signed a contract with TNA.

Lashley debuted at TNA’s Lockdown PPV this past Sunday night and was also in Orlando earlier this week for the latest round of Impact TV tapings.

As of Tuesday, we had heard nothing to indicate that Lashley, who will face Bob Sapp on June 9 in the third fight of his MMA career, had signed any kind of contract with the company other than to appear at Lockdown, although he is believed to be interested in staying in TNA for the forseeable future.

“A few people from TNA have wanted Lashley in there since he left WWE,” iFight365.com were told late on Wednesday. “He’s friends with a lot of the wrestlers and it makes sense for him to get some extra exposure.

“He could have returned to WWE but no way would they let him still work MMA which is what he wants to do, so TNA made a lot of sense.

“MMA remains his focus, his main goal.”

Speaking to The Sun, TNA’s Jeff Jarrett said of Lashley combining MMA with a return to professional wrestling: “He’ll do both. We’re different from other organisations.

“We want Bobby to be happy in both fields and we feel there is a good marketing aspect to it.

“MMA will help him – and it will help us.”

As I wrote earlier in the week, I really wouldn’t be surprised to see Lashley vs. Angle, should Lashley stick around in TNA. And with Angle’s constant claims that he could turn to MMA himself (and two years on from him first saying that, does anybody see it happening?), I wouldn’t be surprised to see Lashley-Angle in some kind of worked MMA match.
