Previewing tonight’s TNA Lockdown PPV
TNA present Lockdown tonight live on PPV from Philadelphia, PA. As always, Jon Jones will be on hand for a recap of the show shortly after it goes off the air.
The show comes off the back of a few weeks of solid TNA programming, with Impact improving considerably as of late.
As noted over the past week or so, the pre-show match is Eric Young vs. Danny Bonaduce, which at one point was scheduled to be a dark match but plans changed, so this will be seen by anybody tuning in prior to the PPV. Bonaduce has been doing a heck of a job promoting the match via his radio show, although TNA have not done nearly as much as they could to capitalise on him. That said, I think it makes sense for TNA to not put the match on the PPV itself. I can see Bonaduce taking a heck of a beating here before pulling out the win. Sucks to be Eric Young, who on talent alone should be in a PPV match every month.
- Xscape Match: X-Division champion Suicide (C) vs. Kiyoshi vs. Sheik Abdul Bashir vs. Black Machismo vs. Consequences Creed
I have no idea who wins here…possibly Jay Lethal since he worked a lot of Indies in the North East and will likely have the crowd behind him. I’m not a fan of this match generally but it should result in some good action.
- Queen of the Cage: Madison Rayne vs. Sojourner Bolt vs. Daffney vs. ODB
No disrespect to any of the four involved, but matches like this one have no place inside a cage. I do like the Lockdown format but I wish they’d still try and make it logical for each match to be a cage match. I expect it will be relatively short. For the sake of a pick, I’ll go with ODB.
- New Japan Jnr. Tag Team Title Match: The Motor City Machineguns vs. No Limit vs. LAX
You could make a case for this match not taking place inside the Six Sides of Steel, but regardless, this should be good. I expect the crowd to be lively and likely behind LAX, but by the end of the match I can see No Limit having won the fans over.
- Doomsday Chamber of Blood Match: Abyss vs. Matt Morgan
Blood, plunder, weapons and violence will be on the menu in this one, complete with some kind of sick Abyss bump. This match would actually have meant more, in my opinion, if it wasn’t on the same card as a load of other cage matches. Still, it should be decent.
- TNA Knockouts Title Match: Awesome Kong (C) vs. Angelina Love vs. Taylor Wilde
Kong to retain here. I like the other two knockouts involved but a title switch really shouldn’t be happening. Kong needs to dominate and retain, while TNA need to get to work on adding a couple of seriously talented female wrestlers to challenge for the belt.
- Philly Street Fight – Title vs. Title: TNA Tag Team champions Beer Money, Inc. vs. IWGP Tag Team champions Team 3D
Lockdown is an all-cage show, but one of the matches which perhaps should be inside a cage will take place outside of it. To be fair, you probably avoid either team being limited by what they can do by adding the street fight stipulation. Its in Philly, so I can’t see anything other than a 3D win here. Interesting to see if Balls Mahoney is there tonight given that he pulled out of an appearance here in the UK this weekend.
- Lethal Lockdown: Team Jarrett (Jeff Jarrett, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels) vs. Team Angle (Kurt Angle, Kevin Nash, Booker T and Scott Steiner)
Can Styles trust Jarrett? Who knows, but the bigger question is can TNA put on a PPV without teasing a turn beforehand? For the sake of the feud, Team Jarrett need the win tonight. I can see that happening, but I can also see Jarrett turning at the end of the match to set up something for Impact next week.
- TNA World Title Match: Sting (C) vs. Mick Foley
The build for this has been pretty good and Foley’s promo on the ‘go home’ Impact was excellent. Whether or not this is a good match I think depends on what kind of condition Foley is in. I have no doubts that he’ll go out there to impress, but whether his body can do what he wants to any more, I’m not sure. I don’t see Sting losing the title here but I expect it to be a bloody main event.
