TNA LOCKDOWN: NEW CHAMPIONS, LASHLEY APPEARANCE AND MORE
by Jon Jones
- Eric Young vs. Danny Bonaduce opened the show and had a fairly solid TV match. Bonaduce looked much better than most celebrities have done in a wrestling ring. Young won with a small package but Bonaduce choked him out after the match until Rhino hit the ring, climbed into the cage and hit him with a GORE.
- Dixie Carter did an interview, putting over the fans. She came off really likeable. I have a feeling she’s going to end up as an authority figure on TV though.
- Xscape Match: X-Division champion Suicide (C) vs. Kiyoshi vs. Sheik Abdul Bashir vs. Black Machismo vs. Consequences Creed.
Lethal pinned Kiyoshi after an elbow drop from the top rope. Bashir then pinned Creed with a DDT. Suicide hit Lethal with Suicide Solution, but Bashir threw Suicide into the cage and stole the pin on Lethal. The crowd had been quiet up to now but the finish was freakin’ awesome. Suicide and Bashir were fighting on the cage. Kiyoshi returns to the cage and security came out to pull him off. Suicide then headbutted Bashir to the floor and took a dive off the top of the cage on to the security guys and Kiyoshi below. Winner: Suicide.
- Queen of the Cage: Madison Rayne vs. Sojourner Bolt vs. Daffney vs. ODB
Crowd was pretty quiet throughout. ODB got the win after spitting drink into’s Sojo Bolt’s face and giving her a powerslam. Winner: ODB.
- New Japan Jnr. Tag Team Title Match: The Motor City Machineguns vs. No Limit vs. LAX
Weird crowd reactions as big spots were reacted to well, but there wasn’t much heat the rest of hte time. All six worked real hard throughout here. Finish saw the Machine Guns hit Naito with a double Sliced Bread #2 for the pin. Winner: The Motor City Machineguns.
- Doomsday Chamber of Blood Match: Abyss vs. Matt Morgan
Real good with tons of blood as you’d expect. Abyss had the match won but the ref had taken a bump. Abyss went for a chair but Stevie Richards came out, with Tenay and West SHOCKED that Dr. Stevie was actually Richards. Abyss brought out a bag of thumb tacks. Richards attacked him and Morgan hit a low blow and a tree slam on Abyss who ended up in the tacks for the win. Winner: Matt Morgan.
- TNA Knockouts Title Match: Awesome Kong (C) vs. Angelina Love vs. Taylor Wilde
Real short match with a shock title change. Crowd were into Kong but neither Love or Wilde and popped huge when Kong went for a top rope moonsault. Love and Velvet Sky tied Kong’s braids into the cage early on. Wilde checked on Kong, but Kong gave her a kick to the stomach and Love pinned Wilde. Looked pretty poor. Winner and new Knockouts champion: Angelina Love.
- Philly Street Fight – Title vs. Title: TNA Tag Team champions Beer Money, Inc. vs. IWGP Tag Team champions Team 3D
This was insane. It was like a different crowd. All four brawled to start things off with loud ‘ECW’ chants. They went back to the ring and the crowd went nuts when tables got brought out. Unsurprisingly, 3D got the win after a 3D on Robert Roode to scoop both sets of tag titles. Winners: 3D.
- Lethal Lockdown: Team Jarrett (Jeff Jarrett, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels) vs. Team Angle (Kurt Angle, Kevin Nash, Booker T and Scott Steiner)
This was good but perhaps not as good as the past couple of Lethal Lockdown matches in previous years. The crowd popped more for the Mafia than the babyfaces and in some ways it was like a 90s nostalgia show. Nash got a huge reaction, as did Steiner – especially for a Frankensteiner from the top rope. Worth noting here that Samoa Joe was wearing a black towel over his head tonight, as Taz would. I guess something is going to be happening there in the next couple of weeks.
Once the cage roof was down, tons of weapons got used. AJ Styles won the crazy spot of the night when he dived from the top of the cage through a gimmicked section on to everybody below. Jarrett missed a chairshot on Booker and instead hit Styles, so I guess more will come from that at TV this week. The finish came when Jarrett got the guitar and hit Booker with it. Styles then pinned Booker to win the match. Winners: Team Jarrett.
Former WWE wrestler turned MMA fighter Bobby Lashley came out. He’s the former World Champion it appears. They teased him joining the Mafia.
- TNA World Title Match: Sting (C) vs. Mick Foley
Not a bad main event although it was clear neither guy could “go” as they would have wanted to. Foley worked as the heel and the crowd was back and forth all match. Foley punched a cut on his face to bust himself open. Crazy. Some good heat in places although for a main event with two legends in there, the reaction overall was pretty poor. Sad even. A barbed wire bat was brought into play which livened things up. Foley hit Sting in the head with the bat then dropped an elbow with the wire wrapped around his arm. They both climbed the cage together, but Foley got over first and took an ugly, ugly looking bump to the floor to win! Winner and new TNA champion: Mick Foley.
