One of the Best Pound for Pound – Brown vs. Faber at WEC 41

There’s no UFC action this weekend in the world of mixed martial arts, but it still happens to be one of the best weekends for fans of the sport in recent memory.
Saturday kicks things off with a stacked Strikeforce card, but the main event of the weekend will be Sunday’s WEC Featherweight Title rematch between Urijah Faber and Mike Brown.
While some look down on the WEC as the minor leagues, there’s nothing amateur about Faber and Brown, who are both among the top ten pound-for-pound fighters in all of MMA. Their WEC 41 matchup is a must-see for any true fan of the sport.
Brown won the first matchup to swipe Faber’s title in a massive upset, but some feel that it was Faber who lost the fight when he get a little too overconfident trying to put on a show for the fans.
Faber went for a flashy spinning back fist against Brown in their first fight and got tagged by Brown, who then went on to finish “The California Kid.”
Brown has since gone on to defend the title once in an impressive performance against Leonard Garcia while Faber rebounded by submitting MMA legend Jens Pulver in their rematch fight in January.
The UFC odds for this one at BetUS are -135 to -105 in favor of Faber, cementing the school of thought that Faber, once considered virtually flawless and perhaps unbeatable, just had an off night in their first fight.
Faber is one of the most creative, dynamic fighters in all of MMA, a true artist in the cage who can carve opponents with his combination quickness and wrestling and jiu-jitsu prowess.
But Brown is no slouch either, even though he isn’t exactly the most intimidating-looking fighter in the world. Brown is a deceptively athletic wrestler by trade who also boasts knockout power that belies his featherweight size. If Faber makes another mistake, Brown has the ability to catch him with a big right hand shot or perhaps pounce on him to reign finishing blows.
But while Brown has certainly proven himself to be an excellent MMA fighter and worthy champion in his own right, this fight will be all about Faber coming in focused and businesslike in his quest to get the featherweight belt back.
Brown will put up a good fight but eventually Faber will take control of the fight and his superior flexibility and athleticism to slap a submission on Brown.
