Tim Sylvia pulled from Affliction event following loss to Mercer
Tim “The Maniac” Sylvia has been pulled from the Affliction: Trilogy event scheduled for August 1 in Anaheim, California. Affliction Entertainment vice president Tom Atencio informed the sports news web site FanHouse.com that this was their decision as a result of Sylvia’s nine-second knockout loss to Ray Mercer over the weekend.
“It’s his second knockout in a row, and I don’t want to take a chance on anything,” Atencio explained. “The fight is 60 days away.”
He added that this was their call to pull Sylvia, believing that it would be in his best interest and take time off to heal. The California State Athletic Commission had not contacted Affliction about possibly pulling him from the card.
Sylvia’s scheduled opponent Paul Buentello will still fight on the card, most likely against the winner of Pedro Rizzo vs. Gilbert Yve. That latter fight will take place on June 27 in Biloxi, Mississippi for the Ultimate Chaos event.
“You gotta take a step back and go, ‘Man, you know, it would be great to fight him but what would it do for me now? What would it do for me now in front of the fans?’” Buentello told FanHouse.com. “I don’t know if the hype is still there after him getting beat.”
