DGUSA – Dragon Gate USA Untouchable PPV Review

Wednesday November 11, 2009 BY Garrett Kidney

Dragon Gate’s first PPV Enter the Dragon was one of the best PPV’s this year so it was a big task for Dragon Gate: USA to outdo it, but Dragon Gate managed to do just that and then some.

Dragon Kid beat Masato Yoshino

This was one of the best openers I’ve seen all year. While it’s not a completely mind blowing match you can understand why it wasn’t as you don’t want to burn out your crowd after the first match but this was very good. It’s clear Yoshino and Dragon are very familiar with each other and it really added to the match. Whenever they picked up the pace it was spectacular. 7.75/10

Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw beat YAMATO and Gran Akuma

This was a good match that told a decent story but it was nothing must see. Either Jigsaw sold his leg brilliantly throughout the match or he was injured but it did seem to hurt the overall flow of the match. Quackenbush is an excellent wrestler but he couldn’t look any more indy if he tried. 7/10

Naruki Doi beat Bryan Danielson

I had really high expectations going into this one and it delivered on every level. This was just a brilliant technical match and a great way to show off both men and establish Doi as one of the top guys for Dragon Gate. The pacing of this match was spot on and every spot, counter and move were crisp and fluid. Excellent, excellent stuff. 10/10

CIMA beat Brian Kendrick

This was a strange one. The match was only about three minutes long and jammed everything they could into it. Kendrick was the only mainstream name on the card so you’d think that they’d have his match go longer but the action was good for what it was. This match would have probably been better off left off the show but I suppose you need a down period between the last match and the next one. 3.5/10

Davey Richards beat Shingo

Every aspect of this match was epic. The action was hard hitting and the nearfalls were excellent. Words cannot aptly describe how fantastic this match was and I’ll never be able to do it justice. Only Michaels vs. ‘Taker from WrestleMania gives this match a run for it’s money. This is one of the must see matches of the year and I’d recommend anybody to go out of their way to see this match. 10/10 (but better than Doi vs. Danielson)

Ryo Saito and Genki Horiguchi defeated The Young Bucks

I’d question why this went on last as Richards/Shingo was the best match on the show by a landslide but this was another great match. The Bucks seem to get better every time I see them and they seem ready-made for a feud with the Motor City Machine Guns. Lots of great double team action mixed with some great wrestling and some equally great high spots. Excellent stuff all round. 9.5/10

Overall, this is the best two hours of wrestling I’ve watched all year and is a PPV that any wrestling fan should go out of their way to see. If you have any comments or queries, email me at the email address below. Thanks for reading.
