UPDATED: Former WWE star Umaga seriously ill, hospitalised

Friday December 4, 2009 BY Phil Lowe

Former WWE star Umaga, real name Eddie Fatu, is seriously ill in a Houston hospital with fears for his life.

Details on what happened aren’t fully known at time of writing, but a source close to the 36-year-old told iFight365.com that he had been found at home by his wife, unable to breath and bleeding from the nose.

From what we know, he was taken to a local hospital in his hometown of Houston, Texas, where he was placed on a life support machine.

Some websites have this evening reported that the one-time WrestleMania headlined had died while earlier today, several wrestlers who were close to Fatu had wrote messages on their Twitter page regarding their friend, including Bobby Lashley, who wrote: “Very sad day today. A good friend is gone.”

Fatu, who left WWE in June of this year, had just finished working the Hulkamania tour in Australia in the last week. He had left the company after a second violation of WWE’s Wellness Policy and when refusing to enter rehabilitation (as per the Policy for a second strike) was released.

Our best wishes go out to the friends and family of Eddie Fatu at this time.
