When the Ultimate Fighter Season 10 show started, the role of “most hated” went by default to guys like Kimbo Slice or Rampage Jackson, well-known guys who played the role of villain.

Jackson took to calling fighter Darrill Schoonover “Titties,” relentlessly making fun of him to the point where he almost snapped.

And Kimbo Slice played the role of villain until people found out he was actually a genuine guy and aspiring MMA fighter and not just someone who goes around beating up bums for sport.

But later on in the show, Matt Mitrione and then James McSweeney were the guys who drew most of the ire from the viewing audience.

McSweeney’s teasing of Zak Jensen eventually crossed the line from innocent to excessive and his cockiness also came to the surface.

As for Schoonover, he turned in a solid performance on the show, flying under the radar excepting the teasing incidents before running into a much bigger and stronger Marcus Jones.

But the loss to Jones was the first in his MMA career, a career that also includes a stint as an undefeated amateur boxer.

McSweeney is a much more impressive-looking athlete with sharper striking skills, and those are probably the main reasons why he is a slight favorite going into his Ultimate Finale fight with Schoonover on Saturday night.

McSweeney is listed at -120 to -110 odds over the slight underdog Schoonover on the BetUs.com Sportsbook.

While Schoonover continues to not get a whole lot of respect despite his solid showings and career stats, McSweeney has been overvalued from the beginning and bettors should recognize that. He has a losing record in his MMA career now following his loss to Roy Nelson, and he very easily could have lost his opening match against big Wes Shivers during which he was pummeled in the first round and gassed out badly in the second round.

Schoonover is better on the ground and is underrated as a striker, and he has all the tools to finish his fight with McSweeney.

Meanwhile, the best McSweeney seems to be able to hope for is to dance around outside of Schoonover’s range in this one in hopes of out-pointing him, because McSweeney lacks the submission skills or power to finish this one.

That’s why Schoonover is a good bet as a slight upset pick this time around. McSweeney may look more menacing, but this is a clear case where hype simply doesn’t match reality.

The Pick: Darrill Schoonover (-110) by kimura in the third round
