Exclusive: SENI preparation continues as Fighters Inc comment on Fedor rumours and UFC Fan Expo

Wednesday January 27, 2010 BY Martin Smith

With five months to go before the Seni Mixed Martial Arts exhibition returns to the London Excel, Fighters Inc – the group behind the exhibition - talk about their plans and what we can expect at the event later this year.

The excitement around the event is continuing to gain momentum and, with a number of star names attending the event in the past, it’s clear that the rumour mill will continue to pull out world class fighters that could be attending the event.

With nothing confirmed, one name mentioned around the Internet appears to be current WAMMA Heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko.

“I don’t know where this rumour started, however we are in talks with a number of high profiled talent and until any deals are 110% confirmed we couldn’t comment,” said Fighters Inc’s Joe Long.

It would certainly be an impressive coup for the show, which held signings with Dan Henderson, Michael Bisping and a host of world class fighters at past Seni events. Preparation for the event has been thoroughly worked out, and Long admits that they are still finalising deals to make the event a special one for those in attendance.

“Preparation has been great, with a year out from Seni in 2009, we have had more time to prepare and plan. We are also really buzzed up to return to London’s Excel.

“We are currently finalising content with Worlds Strongest Man; with a number of big names already in place (and) we are tailoring the event specifically for Seni and our audience. We will be making some major announcements soon, including athletes,” confirmed Long.

The weekend’s activities include an Arm Wars competition and the Gracie Invitational tournament - the second largest BJJ tournament in Europe. For those who aren’t sure what those activities will entail, Long was more than happy to explain the process and how you can even get involved yourself.

“It (Arm Wars) has always been a part of Seni and the TV exposure has and will help drive people to Seni to see some great International Match Ups Live across the weekend.

“The Gracie Invitational runs hand in hand with Seni and this year Royce Gracie will be in attendance once again. There will be 8 active matted areas in the tournament zone and over six hundred athletes set to take part. People can log onto www.seni.tv and click on Open to register to compete.”

Of course, that isn?t all that is on offer at the show. With many events and open competitions set to take place, including Ring Masters, MMA League and The International Karate Open tournament, it’s certainly an event that caters for everyone.

There will be at least three thousand competitors across the weekend and a new five thousand seated venue for the evening shows, will include the Master Skens Muay Thai Premier League show on the Saturday. With more events in negotiation, fans may be left wondering where to spend their time, but it?s a question Long gets used to answering.

“There is so much to do; it’s really down to the individual and what they want to get out of their Seni experience. If you want to compete in tournaments you can. If you want to shop until you drop you can. If you want to watch events until your eyes pop out you can. If you want to train in seminars all weekend you can. If you want to purchase an AAA Pass and roll with the VIPs and party you can. And if you want to do a bit of everything – you can!”

In closing, it appears that the recent announcement of the UFC Fan Expo being held on the same weekend as Seni hasn’t disrupted proceedings, and Fighters Inc are going to continue with their preparation hand in hand with MMA?s biggest company.

“I can’t see how this would affect us; the UFC Fan Expo is in Vegas not the UK. We work closely with (the) UFC, and are currently finalising UFC talent and content for Seni.”

We’re sure it’ll be a great weekend. For more information, times and up to the minute news about Seni,  visit www.seni.tv
