Martin Kampmann/ Paulo Thiago Fight Possible For UFC 115 in June

Thursday March 11, 2010 BY ifight365

Though there have appeared to be some snafus that may force the UFC to take some drastic measures to keep the UFC 115 event in Vancouver, BC, the bouts are still coming for the event as the Las Vegas Sun is reporting that Martin Kampmann and Paulo Thiago have verbally agreed to a Welterweight match-up at the event.

Kampmann was expected to meet Ben Saunders later this month as part of the undercard of UFC 111, but Kampmann suffered a nasty cut above his eye that would not heal in time to allow him to properly prepare for the bout, forcing him to withdraw. Kampmann saw his title hopes go up in smoke following a UFC 103 knockout loss to Paul “Semtex” Daley, but “The Hitman” was able to get back to his winning ways quickly by submitting Jacob Volkmann in the first round of their bout at UFC 108 in January.

Thiago has put together a sterling 13-1 career record and is 3-1 in the UFC with victories over Josh Koscheck, Jacob Volkmann and Mike Swick, as well as a loss to Jon Fitch at UFC 100 last July. His most recent victory over Swick at UFC 109 last month saw him earn Submission of the Night honors by putting Swick to sleep with a D’arce choke in the second round of their main card bout.

UFC 115 is expected to see Ultimate Fighter 11 coaches Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell and Tito Ortiz meet for a third time after their coaching stints are complete. Liddell has scored TKO victories over Ortiz in their previous two meetings with the last coming at UFC 66 when Ortiz challenged Liddell for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. The card is also expected to see Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic meet kickboxer Pat Barry in a bout sure to deliver fireworks.
