Mir: Lesnar’s size will make for an easier fight at UFC 100

Brock Lesnar may have impressed a lot of UFC fans, but ahead of UFC 100 on July 11, Frank Mir believes the former WWE star will make for an easier fight because of his size.

UFC heavyweight champion Lesnar weighs around 280lbs and interim champion Mir believes cardio could be a problem for his opponent.

He told Cagewriter: “Honestly, I think big guys are easier to fight. They don’t move as fast, they get tired quickly and they’re not as technical.”

Mir revealed that as well as training with fighters of similar size to Lesnar at his Striking Unlimited…

Silva vs. St. Pierre coming to the UFC?

Could Anderson Silva vs. Georges St. Pierre be on the Horizon?

When BJ Penn issued a personal challenge to Georges St. Pierre after his win over Jon Fitch at UFC 87, most of the MMA world rejoiced. But there was still a sizeable chunk of fans who lamented the fact that setting up a St. Pierre vs. Anderson Silva match up wasn’t the course of action instead.

Penn is easily one of the most talented mixed martial artists of our time, but one look at him suggests he isn’t on the same level from a pure physical standpoint as St. Pierre…

AS IT HAPPENED: WWE’S ‘THE BASH’ PPV

Rey Mysterio and Chris Jericho tore the house down in one of the best matches of 2009, while Jericho and Edge later became surprise tag team champions.

CM Punk remains World champion after a really good match with Jeff Hardy, while elsewhere, Kane returned from hiatus, Tommy Dreamer retained the ECW title in a 5-way Scramble match and The Miz’s chances of making it out of the midcard look slim after he was buried by John Cena and some bad booking.

Read on for a full recap of WWE’s The Bash PPV as it happened on Sunday night!

McMahon ‘buys’ Raw from Trump - WWE Monday Night Raw TV report (airdate June 22)

The Big News: Fear not, Affliction fans. Donald Trump sold back Monday Night Raw to Vince McMahon, and has re-dedicated his efforts to raising awareness of the sold-out Affliction Trilogy event.

Show Analysis: Raw’s opening package had Donald Trump all over the place. He came out to start the show. He plugged the no commercial gimmick and the full ticket refund gimmick. I wonder if WWE gave the Green Bay fans a refund on the Ticketmaster extortion charges too.

John Cena then made his entrance to enthusiastically shill the WWE gimmicks. He…

Johnny Ace wants WWE involvement in Misawa Memorial Show

There will be a Mitsuharu Misawa Memorial Show taking place at the Differ Ariake Arena in Tokyo on Saturday, July 4.

The location is symbolic as it was the first place that ran a Pro Wrestling NOAH show and is next to the promotion’s headquarters. NOAH is getting help from both All Japan and New Japan promotions.

Apparently, John Laurinitis wants WWE to take part as well, even if WWE barely had any type of history with Misawa. The only known history was a WWF/All Japan super show that they did in 1990 with Bret Hart facing Misawa in a singles match…

Throwing in the Towel DVD Review: WWE - The Greatest Stars of the 90’s

A follow-up to “the Greatest Stars of the 80’s”, which was released absolutely ages ago, the Greatest Stars of the 90’s follows the same formula. That is, a DVD featuring a documentary that highlights some of the biggest stars of the given time period, accompanied by a bunch of matches that feature said superstars.

Essentially, this is a superficial run through, of who the WWE regard as “The Greatest Stars of the 90’s”. What that encompasses, is a brief bio on each chosen superstar, comprised of clips and interviews covering their career. If I had never seen a WWE retrospective before, I’d be blown away by this material. Unfortunately I’ve seen…

Hogan, Undertaker, Flair and more - A look at older wrestlers who could still bring the goods

As a follow on from my criticism of TNA’s use of aging ECW alumni Raven and Shane Douglas, I would like to make an apology.

While I criticised Raven for having been out of shape during his previous TNA run, I can see that it clearly was due to a purely medical condition, and that he does seem to have got back into tremendous shape for someone of his age.

This, combined with news that TNA appears to be purely using them as a short term nostalgia act in order to promote their next PPV, casts a fresh light on what initially seemed to be a poor business move…

Dana White angry as Cro Cop leaves UFC again

Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ Filipovic’s UFC return is over.

The Croatian star stopped Mostapha Al-Turk in the first round at UFC 99 on Saturday night in his first fight in the UFC since recording back-to-back losses in 2007.

UFC president Dana White was of the impression that Cro Cop would be staying for another two fights but was rocked by the news that the fighter has signed a three-fight deal with the Japan-based DREAM promotion.

White had signed Filipovic to a one-fight deal for the UFC’s first ever live event in Germany…

Lesnar and Mir on alert after Velasquez batters Kongo at UFC 99

Cain Velasquez was in great form as he defeated Cheick Kongo in the co-main event at UFC 99 on Saturday night.

Velasquez dominated throughout the bout, although Kongo could have won it early when he rocked Velasquez with two punches that would have put other fighters down and out.

But that was Kongo’s only really shining light in a bout that saw Velasquez give his opponent one heck of a beating en route to a unanimous points win.

Velasquez was in control throughout on the…

UFC 99 - Kongo is one step away from stardom

Cheick Kongo against Cain Velasquez has all the ingredients to be the fight of the night, and with both men looking at securing the number one contender spot in the UFC heavyweight division, it is sure to be a hard hitting battle.

Kongo looked superb in his last fight against Antoni Hardonk and seems to have turned a corner since his defeat against Heath Herring at UFC 82. His cardio looks great, his muay thai looks better and his kicks look deadly.

In fact, for the first time in his UFC career, Kongo looks like a world beater and a man who could rule the heavyweight division…

UFC 99 - Can Silva get back to winning ways?

Wanderlei Silva will be heading into UFC 99 knowing that he must win if he is to dampen speculation that he is past it as a top-tier MMA fighter in the UFC. However, the task in front of him is one hell of a big one.

For me, Rich Franklin is the best middleweight in the world – with the exception of Anderson Silva. Problem is, Franklin is no longer regarded as a middleweight – he’s a light heavyweight – and Silva has struggled at 205lbs since his switch over from PRIDE. Here, Silva goes into the bout at a catchweight of 195lbs desperate for a win streak that will once again establish him as one of the deadliest fighters in the UFC. It’s a massive…

Aftermath of WWE’s Extreme Rules PPV - where do WWE go from here?

After Sunday night’s largely entertaining Extreme Rules PPV (RAW matches aside), we have been left with a lot of new champions and I’m sure most people will be wondering where does each brand go from here? What will happen or what do I think should happen. First off, I start with…

RAW:

I’ll start off with the midcard environment, specifically the US title scene. Last night’s match was actually rather fun to watch I think and it could arguably have been given more time. I would have preferred half the Cena/Show match time allocation to go to the Fatal Fourway match, but…
