With 2010 upon us, we thought we’d share with you our favourite moments from the MMA scene in 2009.

MMA enjoyed huge success throughout the year, with several fighters going on to become world class athletes. The highlights were endless – Team UK impressed during season nine of The Ultimate Fighter, Kimbo Slice made his UFC debut, Dan Hardy sent shockwaves through the welterweight division, Team England impressed in the M1 Challenge and Affliction suffered in similar fashion to the PRIDE organisation.

One thing is for sure however, it was an awesome year to be an MMA fan…

Former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski has been feeling extremely depressed since his loss to Brett Rogers back in June.

The UFC have called a press conference for Friday with major announcements expected from UFC president Dana White.

The UFC and Affliction have agreed for the clothing company to return to UFC as a sponsor, with Affliction seemingly done as an MMA promotion.

Affliction’s upcoming ‘Trilogy’ pay-per-view has been cancelled.

Fighters and managers were informed on Friday that the show had been postponed although reasons for the decision have not yet been disclosed.

The loss of Josh Barnett, who was scheduled to face Fedor Emelianenko for the Russian fighter’s WAMMA heavyweight title in the main event until he tested positive for a steroid test, almost certainly were a major factor in Affliction’s decision.

Less than two weeks away from his fight for the World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts (WAMMA) title with Russian legend and title holder Fedor Emelianenko at Affliction: Trilogy, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Josh Barnett has tested positive for a banned substance for the second time in his career.

With less than a fortnight to go before his scheduled fight Fedor Emelianenko, Josh Barnett has been ruled out of Affliction’s August 1 PPV main event in Anaheim, CA after testing position for a pre-fight drug test.

Even in promotions he doesn’t fight for, Fedor is the star. In the wake of Brock Lesnar’s current heavyweight win, Fedor Emelianenko is the talk of the town. Leave it to Fedor to steal another man’s fire without ever uttering a word.

Watching Fedor Emelianenko “made me nervous tonight,” said Josh Barnett about Fedor’s bout with Andrei Arlovski at Afflictions “Day of Reckoning”.

As those who have taken part in MMA betting for any length of time know, absolutely anything can happen inside the octagon (or squared circle, for fans of Affliction betting and PRIDE). When two trained fighters are pitted against one another, generally with both holding black belts in one discipline or another, it is difficult to give credence to MMA odds.

Affliction M-1Global’s star-studded “Trilogy” is stacking-up as one of the all-time best shows from top to bottom in professional mixed martial arts fighting history. The marquee performer is Russian combat fighting legend Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko, who defends his WAMMA heavyweight title against No. 1 contender Josh “The Babyfaced Assassin” Barnett, August 1 live on Pay-Per-View from Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

Tim Sylvia has been pulled from the Affliction: Trilogy event scheduled for August 1 as a result of his nine-second knockout loss to Ray Mercer.

Just like Andrei Arlovski last week, Tim Sylvia lost his first fight since losing to Fedor Emelianeko. And like Arlovski, Sylvia lost his fight in a matter of seconds.
