The post-fight infomation continues to flow from last weekend’s WEC 47 event as today the Ohio Athletic Commission, the sanctioning body for the event, has released the list of medical suspensions stemming from the night’s action.
Topping the list is Brian Bowles, who was unable to continue in his main event fight against Dominick Cruz for the WEC Banatamweight Championship due to a broken hand suffered on his first punch of the night. Joseph Benavidez ran his professional record to 12-1 with the biggest victory of his career this past Saturday night at WEC 47 as he choked out former WEC Bantamweight Champion Miguel Torres in the second round of their co-main event bout and now he’s looking to the future and to avenging the only loss of his career to this point;

The OAC(Ohio Athletic Commision) has issued the medical suspension list for the fighters who participated in WEC 47: Bowles Vs. Cruz, and as expected the list included Miguel Torres(due to the deep laceration on his forehead) and Brian Bowles(due to his broken hand). Here’s the list:
Brian Bowles: Suspended indefinitely due to hand injury. Must be cleared by orthopedic doctor.
Miguel Torres: Suspended indefinitely due to forehead laceration. Must be cleared by orthopedic doctor.
Chad Mendes: Suspended sixty days due to cut.

Former WEC bantamweight champ Miguel Torres (37-3) suffered the first second straight loss of his career on Saturday night at the “WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz” event in Columbus, Ohio. Torres was defeated by Joseph Benavidez in the second round via Guillotine submission moments after suffering a brutal cut to the forehead by an elbow.

Saturday’s World Extreme Cagefighting event, “WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz” event took place at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio marking the promotions first event in that state.
WEC General Manager Reed Harris marked the event as a success noting that the attendance figure broke the top-five mark for past events. A total of 8,345 spectators watched WEC 47 in Columbus making it the fifth largest attendance total for any WEC event.

Tonight’s World Extreme Cagefighting event, “WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz” takes place at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio airing on the Versus Network. The main event of the evening features a bantamweight title bout newly crowned Brian Bowles and challenger Dominick Cruz.

UFC seems to have hit a homerun with the initial multi-fight signing of former champion boxer James Toney. Here’s the latest on the signing:
James Toney is being trained for MMA by non other than Juanito Ibarra. Ibarra is well known for his former relationship with Quinton “Rampage” Jackson whom he trained and managed. The relationship did not end well, but here’s hoping that things fall out better between these two.

World Extreme Cagefighting returns to Versus for their second event of 2010 as the blue Octagon heads to Columbus, OH for the first time as part of the Arnold Fitness Expo, and all twenty-two fighters who are scheduled for the event have made weight without incident after yesterday’s weigh-in event held at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus.

WEC General Manager Reed Harris made news a couple of weeks ago when he stated that the promotion was going to be looking at holding events in Canada in the near future and it appears that those plans are even further along than anyone thought with news coming out that the promotion is looking to bring their show to Calgary, AB on June 20th, though nothing has been confirmed at this time.
The event would likely be WEC 49 as there is no WEC event scheduled for May at this time …

The scheduled bout between former WEC Lightweight Champion Jamie Varner and Kamal Shalorus for WEC 48 on April 24th is now off as Shalorus has suffered an injury in training and will not be able to make the fight.
Varner posted the information regarding the injury on his Twitter account, stating that he would be out until June unless something happened to either Ben Henderson or Donald Cerrone as they prepare for their WEC Lightweight Championship bout at the same event.

Jamie Varner may have lost in his bid to unify the WEC Lightweight Championship at WEC 46 in January when he was submitted by Ben Henderson in the first round of their main event bout, but it hasn’t done anything to quell his confidence.
