It’s likely safe to say that if Mirko “Cro Cop” loses to Ben Rothwell at the upcoming February 20th, UFC 110 card in Sydney, Australia, the heavyweight’s days as a UFC fighter will be over faster than you can say ‘g’day mate’. With 2010 upon us, we thought we’d share with you our favourite moments from the MMA scene in 2009.
MMA enjoyed huge success throughout the year, with several fighters going on to become world class athletes. The highlights were endless – Team UK impressed during season nine of The Ultimate Fighter, Kimbo Slice made his UFC debut, Dan Hardy sent shockwaves through the welterweight division, Team England impressed in the M1 Challenge and Affliction suffered in similar fashion to the PRIDE organisation.
One thing is for sure however, it was an awesome year to be an MMA fan…

Not really sure if you can file this under “MMA News” but the Alabama Pride fight scheduled for December has made a slight adjustment. The card is headlined by a showdown between two, fat, white guys named Butterbean and Tank Abbott, but the fight everyone is talking about was the throwdown between DMX and Eric Martinez. Instead of DMX, however, Eric Martinez will be delighted to hear that he’s fighting Coolio. Yes, that Coolio.

Fedor Emelianenko to feature on re-scheduled Affliction event

It now appears WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko will be featured on the re-scheduled “Affliction: Day of Reckoning.”

The re-scheduled event is rumoured to be held at the site of the organization’s debut – the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. That event drew nearly 15,000 spectators for a live gate of $2.1million.

According to company officials, “Affliction: Banned” also did more than 100,000 pay-per-view buys.

Affliction’s second pay-per-view show, scheduled for October 11 and to be headlined by Andrei Arlovski vs. Josh Barnett for a title shot at Fedor Emelianenko, has been cancelled.

Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer confirmed the news on Wednesday afternoon, although tickets for the show, at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, were still being sold as of lunchtime local time.
